Sly and Single Again

It wasn't a show I was planning to watch, about ex-es getting back together again. I had my fair share of watching the similar storyline. (Emergency couple, Discovery of Love). But my sister was introducing it to me and said it was pretty good. And the drama was airing on the television during the weekends. I ended watching a few snippets and got curious and ended up catching the entire drama.

The drama was pretty good, the actors are pretty solid, Lee Min Jung and Joo Sang Wook were actors I never noticed/watched before. (Thus the main reason I was quite hesitant to start on the drama). But it was a pretty awesome show in general.

Brief description of drama: Its about a divorced couple, Cha Jung Woo (by Joo Sang Wook) and Na Ae Ra (by Lee Ming Jung) who broke up due to circumstances. Cha Jung Woo kept failing in his businesses thus accumulating debts and Na Ae Ra after 4 years of trying to shoulder the income of the family, gave up and chose divorce. Fast forward 3 years after the divorce, Cha Jung Woo finally has his business take off and is currently a millionaire as a president of a mobile chat app company. Na Ae Ra saw this as an unfair treatment and tries to get close to Cha Jung Woo again to gain back what she lost.

What so awesome about it: I love a show when the guy loves the girl and finds himself stuck between his jealousy and trying not to be too obvious about it. We always get scenes where the guy finds himself eating his own shoe, This show has Cha Jung Wook in so many situation where he has to control his desire to be with Na Ae Ra, and watching her go away with another man, where he pulls his "I am your president" trump card to get her to do all sorts of things for him. And I love that the show writes his character as a man-child-like. For his business, he stays true to his philosophy and does not get too affected by the external pressures, yet he is soooo affected by the one person he promised not to be affected by. (Laugh at the irony all the time)

And this show definitely emphasized the importance of communication in a marriage. What I like best about this show is the the writer bothered to try and untangle most of the underlying issues that lead to the divorce. and it totally helped that Cha Jung Wook is totally in love with her even after 3 years of separation.

Especially in this show, the time apart did not serve as a filler, but more of as a time where they needed to pull themselves from the situation, to look back at the mistakes they make, so that they can make a better one for themselves in the future.

Recommend: Sort of yes. Not a YESYESYES kind of show as there were parts where I did not enjoy as much, Its more of a fluffy rom-com that would keep you laughing 75% of the time. I would recommend the show for those who love the actors (I konw there are many fans of Joo Sang Wook) and want a better version of ex-es coming back together as compared to Emergency Couple.

Ranting on: What I didn't enjoy so much, the second leads.... while I get why they are there, (to ignite Cha Jung Wook and Na Ae Ra Jealousy) I really didn't like the development of the characters. I didn't feel their growth in the show as much as the lead actors. Which was wasted, since the drama had so much potential to tap upon.
