One of the eariler dramas that started the Hallyu wave, pushing Yoon Eun Hye to stardom. This is one of the more angsty drama that I would repeatedly watch (even till today). I was such a huge fan I finished the whole series of manhwa.
The show premiered in 2006, so that is ten years ago, a decade ago... wow, there are not many drama as classic as Goong. and has a remake (goong s, which have se7en in it and was pretty good overall)
Brief description of the drama: (as if you all didn't know already) Depitced as Korea in the 21st century with a monarchy. The story revolves around Shin Chae Kyung, a high schooler, who became the wife of the crown prince, a crown princess. The story deals with how Shin Chae Kyung, a carefree person, have to adapt to the strict palace and the romance between the crown prince and crown princess.
What so awesome about it: EVERYTHING. This was the first show that brought me to know Shin Chae Kyung (next was coffee prince) and I LOVED her acting in this show, she was so bubbly and sincere, which kinda made up for the not-as-good acting from the prince. (His face is so boring, save for the last 5 episodes where he finally has some feelings).
And I loved loved loved traditional clothes, its so pretty and there is no lacking of pretty hanboks that are worn by the older ladies in the royal household. Shin Chae Kyung's fusion hanbok were mostly very pretty and unique, and i Liked how most of her clothes have some olden feel to it. (Thoughsom of the choice of clothes after entering the palace is VERY questionable, it could be the trendy style then, but I really didn't like it, most of them looked weird matched together, or too mature for her age), She has such a cute character, she deserves clothes that match her personality more.
To make up for the lousy clothes they have the best kissing scene (see episode 23) DAEBAK, they were so into the kiss, hurhurhur. *the angst as they kiss and the desperation and love.... the kiss means so much* Reunion and separation. This kiss would go into the top 10 kisses of k-drama that I LOVED.
Recommends: YESYESYESYES. The show is so awesome they added 4 episodes to the drama. 4 episodes!!! which shows its popularity. This is a classic that all k-drama fan would have watched, (even on top of boys over flowers).
Ranting on: While I loved loved loved the drama, Lee Yul and Min Hyo Rin, was pretty one-diensional and manage to earn their wee bit of sympathy at the very end. The leads character growth was awesome, for Shin Chae Kyung, she learnt to survive in the cold palace without losing her personality, and for Lee Shin, he learnt to express love, in a place void of feelings of pretense and trickery.
