AKA 我只喜欢你
Brief overview of the drama:
A girl, like a stoic boy. The boy liked her back. Both waiting to each other to show signs they are ready to fall in love. Life got in the way, and they didn't even begin.
They meet by chance 6 years later, and decide to get together.
Apparently, the story is based on the writer own experiences. Thus its extra heart warming
What so awesome about it:
Its a love so simple, so real and so everyday. But so sweet at the same time. I wished I have a love like theirs. Simple and predictable and so full of each other.
I really like the nature of the drama the setup is very similar to 小美好. An everyday love story about waking up next to your love one. One that focused on personal growth, going through the up and downs in life and work together. The portray of the relationship didn't feel forced, like love at first sight or Cinderella with missing shoe and the prince went over the entire town looking for the owner kind of Grandeur effect. Things did happen so they met, but there was effort from both ends that wasn't too much (an effort that I can see myself putting into ) that made things plausible.
They strike a perfect balance of giving space to each other's partner, and encouraging each other to be the better version of themselves. A drama where it shows the sum of 1 + 1 is more than 2.
Now that I am recapping and comparing to 小美好, 我只喜欢你 does feels like missing episodes that I wish 小美好 elaborated on (ie. ep 19-20).
The Male Lead, Yan Mo (portrayed by Zhang Yu Jian) has the best poker face, and the female lead Zhao Qiao Yi (potrayed by Wu Qian) brings out the feelings in him Jealously, Anger, Happiness. He is the funniest and super adorable when those feeling just seep through his poker face. Qiao Yi usually meek and quiet, under Yan Mo has the courage and strength to overcome and show a stronger self (I mean she chased him, that is quite brave).
Shout out to the second leads Zhao Guan Chao (portrayed by Zhao Zhi Wei) and Hao Wu Yi (portrayed by Ma Li) which shows another kind of love from friend of many years to Lovers. (Kudos to Hao Wu Yi for patiently waiting all those years)
Recommends:
If you want something simple and heartwarming, yes. There is nothing more mundane than reading a book in the toilet, nothing more boring than a goodnight kiss.
I feel like this show is suitable for the twenties and up, any younger, it might be too mundane for you to appreciate the nuances and joy of day to day. When all you might want to watch is the 轟轟烈烈 type of love. If you are younger stick to 小美好, its pretty much the same plot but lighter and faster.
FYI. There is a bunch of special clips that is available on youtube that is super cute and heartwarming.
