Something Just Like This 青春创世纪

From the actress Wu Jin Yan (吴谨言) who acted in Yan Xi Palace.

Just finished this drama, its 47 epidsodes (OMG, was it that long..) It was a relatively light and easy to watch, type of drama.

Brief description:

A bunch of twenty somethings starting their entrepreneur journey in the world of live streaming.

What was awesome about it:

Johnny Huang can lift Wu Jin Yan up in ONE ARM. SO MANLY. Let me leave a video here for you too. (removed video as link stopped working TT) So in exchange here is an image

I actually like what I learnt from the show. (Background, I just started work in a small enterprise in a pretty toxic environment) Lao Duan (Father of Duan Ruan) was probably one of the best character written out as a CEO. Knows his plans, Knows how to get there and knows how to give the best advice in a manner that people will receive it well, Knows how to not dwell over split milk. I wish there are more Leaders like this in the world.

Its also nice to have a drama about something that is very relevant to what is happening. Ie the live streaming world. This is probably one of the first/ my only drama that is surrounding live streaming (maybe we will have a show about tic-tok too).

I like how they portrayed the difference between online sales and offline sales. I feel like this topic is close to many people's heart especially with the covid period and all retail brick and mortar stores are affected.

Ranting On:

I might be one of the few that thought the relationship between the OTP was weird. I was happily settled with them being brother and sister, then they moved on to being a couple. I could tell Johnny Huang from his eyes that he was in love with her. The transition was beautiful. But Wu Ji Yan stayed on as more of a sister kind of feel through out. Which made the show a little hard for me to watch. (the chemistry is just strange)

The drama portrayed what a company SHOULD be, nurturing, giving your best, forgiving, hiring new people and giving them opportunities after opportunities. Life really don't work like that in the real world, its a dog-eat-dog world out there. (but, who would want to watch my boring life).

Of course, not many people have the support system of entire retail Tycoon to fall back on. A super mega star who is willing to step up to help and chase me when i need help.

There could be so much potential the drama could have tapped into to make it better. A lot of heavy topics was just touch-and-go. Online vs Offline sales; Depression as a result of causing a friend's Death; Divorce and leaving the wife so he can have high life; Finding one purpose in life after betrayal of company... Some pretty cool and heavy topics could have been explored was left as could have been. (I got that they wanted it to be a light and easy to watch show, but THERE WAS SO MUCH POTENTIAL to just go a little deeper)

Recommendation:

Not really, I felt that this show isn't for anyone. For starters I actually struggled to finish the show, even though the it was quite a light show. There was some issues, there was some problems to overcome, but somehow I never became fully invested and thus, the payoffs for the problems felt insignificant.

The solutions to the problems were tooo easy? Especially since I can relate to some of them such as cash flow issues, lack of manpower... This show is just to close to what I am doing day to day....

This show was easy to watch, cinematics were very pastel, colours were bright. Heavy stuff got over quickly. Good for enjoying yourself over lunch/dinner (when you have nothing else you want to watch and just want to chill for the night). I watch about 20 minutes a day to unwind (even if they were trying to solve some issues, it wasn't something that you will hang up on).
