A Brief description:
A couple of classic tropes with this drama. One with a cold stoic perfect guy falling with a less than perfect girl fumbling through life. And marriage contract (gotta be one of my favourite troupes)
What was awesome about it:
Yun Su (Portrayed by Xu Ruo Han) was very direct with her questions and uncertainties. She ask when she is not clear, she clarifies when there is an understanding. And she does it with a face of innocence and (I wish there was more character like hers Her direct and decisive questions is a breathe of fresh air in the drama. (Thus no 5 episode long misunderstanding and angst) which lead to the drama being quite fast paced and a very light watch.
Instead it was Zhang Si Nian (portrayed by Miles Wei Xun) the one being slightly wishy washy and misunderstanding things even though he is supposed to be the data driven guy. (but I like it when the guy is jealous and doesn't even know it) He was so confused and had to consult his cousin for advice. I loved it when the best friend went "you are in love" and Zhang Si Nian refutes like a typical scientist and he has to break down the individual feelings that he is experiencing to something that can be accepted by Si Nian. (basically the friend was a translator for his heart to his brains, which was hilarious)
The grandfather of Zhang Si Nian (let's called him prof Zhang) was super cute. I thoroughly enjoyed the interactions between prof Zhang, Yun Su and Zhang Si Nian, it was very comfortable and familiar feeling. I also liked how while Prof Zhang was diagnosed with terminal illness which resulted in the rushed contract marriage. They kept the story light, without being too emotional but not just glossing over the sick. The balance was very well done. (**spoilers** It was implied that the Prof Zhang chose not to go for treatment and instead wanted to spend his last days with the new couple. I really loved how they focus on the family and home aspect instead of dwelling on the potential loss. Its a really fine balance. With one of the better endings that I have seen in a Chinese drama, bitter sweet ending that was totally beautiful without too much fan service)
Ranting on:
I really like this drama and nothing not to like about it. It was well balanced with enough laughter and tension but not over the top for its genre.
The only grip I have is maybe I want to learn statistics too hahaha.
Recommendation:
Yes, if you are looking for something light. And the entire drama is on Youtube fully subbed!
I have place the video here too.
